Early childhood educators donate money for students

By: Nick Liard

While Loyalist College is still out looking for community support, they have just received a huge boost from an organization in the community.

The Quinte Early Childhood Education Resource Group has donated $100,000 to the college.

“We were very excited, this is a fabulous, generous donation, “ said Piercy. This will be a fabulous addition for bursaries and scholarships for students. We are working with the organization for criteria. It was just an amazingly generous gift and we are very excited.”

The group has been together for many years and has an extensive community background. It’s an organization that has worked over the years to raise funds for childcare centers and programs for young children.  They told Loyalist they have been on the fund raising prowl going to many bingos over the years, and since the organization would not be continuing in its present format, they made a decision to donate the money.

“The are just the most genuine and generous group of people you could ever imagine,” said Piercy. “So we were delighted to celebrate with them, and we look forward to recognizing their contribution to students in the future.”

“I would formally like to ask you all, to let those good folks know how much you appreciate this, their generous contribution,” Chairman of the Board Stuart Wright said speaking to the rest of the board.

This good news comes just after the bad news that Loyalist College was turned down in all communities they went to council for funding support at.
