BELLEVILLE – Police and the Correctional Service Canada are searching for a prisoner who walked away from the Collins Bay penitentiary complex Sunday night.

David Maracle, who has an extensive criminal past including convictions for sexual assault, kidnapping and weapons possession, walked away from the Henry Trail Correctional Facility around 8 p.m., according to Kingston police.

Henry Trail is a minimum-security facility on the grounds of the larger Collins Bay Institution [2].

Police describe Maracle as First Nations, five feet 10 inches tall, 200 pounds, 51 years old, with short dark hair.  When last seen, he was wearing green/grey cargo pants, a white t-shirt and a dark jacket/sweater, police said.

Maracle finished his sentence on his convictions in October 2015, but was placed under a long-term supervision order. Such an order is to protect the public by keeping high-risk offenders under supervision for up to 10 years after their sentence ends. Maracle’s order is in effect until 2025.

Kingston Police urge the public to be vigilant and, if they see anyone who matches Maracle’s description, to contact the Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement Team at 1-866-870-7673 or Det.-Const. Steve Sermet 416-808-5900.
