BELLEVILLE – Belleville police services responded to a call about a cow on the loose on River Rd. just north of the city on Monday afternoon.
The call was placed shortly after 6 p.m. by the owner of the cow. The cow was being transported in a trailer when it escaped and got loose on the road. The cow ran into a wooded area by the road hindering police attempts to find it. Several calls of sightings came into the police services over the course of the night and it was eventually located in an area between River Rd. and Tank Farm Rd.
However, at 4 a.m. after several hours of unsuccessful attempts to corral the animal the owner asked the police to shoot it as he was concerned because it was moving further south towards the city and that it may eventually cause an auto accident. A police spokesperson says they complied with the request.
