Author Gwynne Dyer to speak on debunking myths about the Middle East at Belleville Library

By Tara Henley [1]

BELLEVILLE – Award-winning Canadian author and journalist Gwynne Dyer [2] will be giving a presentation on the rise of the Islamic State at the Belleville Public Library [3] this Saturday at 2 p.m.

Dyer will be discussing current events, and his latest book Don’t Panic: ISIS, Terror, and Today’s Middle East, the library said in a press release Tuesday.

He argues throughout his book that the arrival of the Islamic State is more of a threat to the Arab countries of the Middle East than Western countries, which he writes have become “the global capital of terrorism.”

Also a columnist and military historian, Dyer is the author of 12 books and director of “War,” a documentary mini-series that was nominated for an Academy Award.

Trevor Pross, Belleville Public Library CEO said he was pleased to announce registration for the event is now full.

“We want to thank the Friends of the Library [4] for providing this presentation … we’re excited to see such high registration from members of the community wanting to attend the event”.

Pross said the subject matter of Dyer’s books was “relevant and certainly very popular right now, especially politically” and says he believes this was probably the reason for the event’s full registration.

There is a book signing scheduled after Dyer’s presentation where copies of his latest book will be sold.
