BELLEVILLE – The first round of results from the 2016 census [3] was released on Feb. 8 and it holds some new results [4] for Belleville.

The  biggest change for this area was that it has been grouped into what is known as a “census metropolitan area” by Statistics Canada. This means that multiple municipalities  are grouped together, anchored by a population centre.

The municipalities in it are Belleville, Stirling-Rawdon, Quinte West and Tyendinaga. Their total population is 103,472. This is an increase of 1.8 per cent over the total in the 2011 census, which was 101,668 people.

When all these municipalities are grouped together they are the 37th-largest population centre in Canada.
