QUINTE WEST – A gas line that was struck early Monday morning near a home in Trenton is under control.

The pipe was struck between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. by a backhoe that was doing construction near a house located on Hollandale Avenue.

Mark Whaley, a Quinte West water and sewer operator, explained the house no longer had natural gas running to it and the gas line was unmarked “so nobody knew it was there.”

The fire department was called and was on scene within 10 minutes, Whaley said.

There was no need for the house to be evacuated and the fire department is standing by, Whaley told QNet News.

The repairs are expected to take two to four hours.
