BELLEVILLE – Three Loyalist Lancer rugby players have been rewarded for their exceptional play.

Hanna Fitzgerald, Rachel Streekstra and Thomas Paul were named Lancer Athletes of the Week.

Paul plays centre for the men’s rugby team. His selection is due to his effort and leadership throughout the entire season, according to a news release on the Lancer’s website.

In his last game against the St. Laurence College Vikings, he made the best of  a couple bad turnovers and played great game right to the end.

The mens rugby team has a record of 0-4.

Paul and his teammates are back on the field Wednesday evening when they’ll  going up against the Durham Lords.

Streekstra scored four tries during the team’s three-game winning streak while Fitzgerald collected two tries.

Fitzgerald also booted six converts in four games to earn a total of 22 points for her team.

Streekstra and Fitzgerald together tallied up 42 of the Lancers’ 92 points in this last weekend’s rugby 7s tournament in Peterborough.

The women’s Lancers shutout the Conestoga Condors 29-0 in their final game of the tournament and sit at second place in the OCCA east division with a 6-2 record.

They are back in action on Saturday.

They will host the final east division tournament before the OCAA Provincial Championships.
