Loyalist College ranks number one in Ontario for graduate employment

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College has the highest success rate for students getting jobs after graduation in Ontario. That’s the finding of a survey conducted of 2017 graduates of Ontario colleges. 

The market research firm, Forum Research, contacts new student graduates every six month to have them do a survey based on where they are post graduation.

They survey students in all kind of programs, ranging from one year certificates to post diploma programs. It also doesn’t necessarily mean that a student has found work in their field, as the study includes any job that the person has six months after graduation.

The study showed that Loyalist was around five per-cent higher than the provincial average.

 Lyndsay Kerik, senior career and alumni officer at Loyalist College said that she attributes the schools ranking to a number of things, including the college’s ability to adapt to meet new industry needs.

“If you look at our new cannabis program, we are one of the first colleges to have anything like this accredited,” Kerik said. “We are always trying to find what the trends are and meet that, which helps ensure that the students are getting jobs.”

Kerik also says that she credits the statistic to how small Loyalist’s population is compared to other schools. She says that because of the school’s unique size, it’s easier for faculty to ensure their student’s are finding success.

Andrew Mauro, a radio broadcasting graduate from Loyalist College, says that the program prepared him to be an employable asset in his field.

“Once I finished my placement I was able to get a part-time job and a few months after I was getting offers from stations across the province,” Mauro said.

Although the study doesn’t specifically say what percentage of the of the jobs are in the students field of study, Kerik says that this information will be posted on the career centre’s website soon.
