BELLEVILLE – A Belleville man has been charged with assault after police were called about a choking incident.

At 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, officers were called to an east-end home by a woman who said she was being choked by her brother, according to a news release Thursday from the Belleville police.

The man was not there when they arrived, but returned one hour later, the release said. The woman had suffered minor injuries.

The officers’ investigation resulted in the 41-year-old man being  arrested and charge with assault causing bodily harm. In a subsequent court appearance, he was remanded to another court date later this week, according to the news release.

Police say they are not releasing the man’s name to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
