By Ludwick Chapman

BELLEVILLE – Those looking for shelter this winter don’t need to be left in the cold: the city of Belleville is reminding people that warming centres are open to everyone looking to avoid freezing temperatures.

The Belleville Public Library, the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre on Cannifton Road and the Salvation Army downtown have opened warming centres, providing comfort for people with nowhere else to go.

The library’s warming centre is open 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

The wellness centre’s warming area is open 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every day, and the warming room at the Salvation Army is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

People are encouraged to call Belleville emergency services at 613-692-2010 if they know someone in need of the warming centre.
