Warming centres in Belleville open to all in need

By Ludwick Chapman [1]

BELLEVILLE – Those looking for shelter this winter don’t need to be left in the cold: the city of Belleville is reminding people that warming centres are open to everyone looking to avoid freezing temperatures.

The Belleville Public Library [2], the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre [3] on Cannifton Road and the Salvation Army [4] downtown have opened warming centres [5], providing comfort for people with nowhere else to go.

The library’s warming centre is open 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

The wellness centre’s warming area is open 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every day, and the warming room at the Salvation Army is open nightly from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

People are encouraged to call Belleville emergency services at 613-692-2010 if they know someone in need of the warming centre.
