BELLEVILLE – An 18-year-old Picton man has been charged after stealing liquor at an LCBO on Lake Street Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported around 10:30 a.m. when staff witnessed the theft on video surveillance.

Prince Edward OPP spoke with the LCBO staff who identified him. Shortly after, the man was located and charged with theft under $5,000

He was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 13 in Picton.

There have been many reports of shoplifting at LCBOs across Ontario. According to a Toronto Star report, thefts at LCBOs make up almost half of all shoplifting incidents in Toronto. This has brought about more conversations on how to crack down on shoplifters to prevent thefts and protect staff’s safety.
