School board sets Sept. 3 as opening day for 2019 -2020 school year

BELLEVILLE – Sept. 3 will be the first day of school next fall after the Hasting and Prince Edward District School Board approved the 2019-2020 school year calendar at a meeting held on Monday.

The second semester will begin on Feb. 3 in 2020. There will be seven professional activity (PA) days in the 2019- 2020 calendar. The PA days will be on Sept. 27, Nov. 1, Nov. 29, Jan. 31, April 3, June 5 and June 26. The last day of the school will be June 26, 2020.

The examinations days for the secondary schools will be Jan. 23, to  Jan. 29, next year. The other session of exams will be from June 17  to  June 23, 2020. The examinations dates can vary from one school to another and should be verified by the school, according to the board.

The statutory holidays, when all schools are closed, will remain the same as proposed by the Ministry of Education: Labour Day, Sept. 2, and Thanksgiving, Day Oct. 14, The Christmas break will be from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3.

Family Day will be on Feb. 17, and mid-winter break will begin from March 16 to March 20. Good Friday will fall on April 10. Easter Monday on April 13 and Victoria Day will be May 18.

The approved calendar dates are subject to Ontario Ministry of Education approval.
