Lancers volleyball teams gear up for powerhouse matches

  • November 4, 2011 at 11:46 am

By Nick Liard

The Loyalist College women’s volleyball team is about to kick off a big weekend in Loyalist sports.

It is both their season and home opener as the Lady lancers take on rival Trent University from Peterborough tonight at 6 p.m.

Last year the teams split two regular season matchups, losing at home 3-1.

Trent finished 18-2 last year so this will be a test to see where the Lancers stack up in the East.

“What we are expecting from Trent tomorrow is a battle.  They are a top East team that has higher expectations than last year.  We normally play well at home and they normally have difficulties playing at the Lancerdome,” said Lancers coach Tony Clarke.

The Lady Lancers are coming off a successful season that saw them make provincials on their home court. They hope to better their 17-3 record from last season.

Following the women’s game the men play.

They too are had a successful season last year, finishing with a record of 14-4.

They came one game short of provincials, losing in the qualifying game on home court to Redeemer College of Hamilton.

They too will take on Trent in the clash of eastern powerhouses.

The men play at 8 p.m.
