BELLEVILLE– Belleville continues to grow with a record breaking third quarter of 2019 in the value of construction starts.

Quinte & District Association of REALTORS® Inc. reports that 2019 September home sales are up compared to 2018 sales as well.

The city of Belleville services reports show that in the past four years the city has had only had seven months where the value of their projects have gone over $20 million. Four out of those seven have occurred this year alone.

Ted Marecak, Chief Building Official, for the city of Belleville explains what the value of the projects means.

“So, if you want to build a new house in the city you come to the city make an application for a building permit. On that building permit you have to see what the value of the construction is that you’re doing,” he said.

“So, if you’re building a new house there has to be an estimated value of four hundred thousand dollars. You put four hundred thousand dollars on the application. That’s how much that the value the house is going to be. So, all of those values get added up.”

Marecak said the numbers are an indicator that the construction economy is still strong.

“The construction industry has been booming in Belleville for the last number of years.”

Quinte & District Association of REALTORS® reports that the 2019 year-to date numbers for residential dollar sales are up 15.8% from 2018.

Also, the monthly dollar sales for all property types in the Quinte area are up significantly with a 38.7% increase compared to 2018.

You can find the rest of the increases and stats in September on Quinte & District Association of REALTORS® Inc. website.
