Loyalist College throws Halloween-themed event for staff appreciation

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College showed its appreciation for its staff by holding a Halloween-themed event Monday.

The event was called Spooktacular and was held during the lunch hour. The human resources department put together the event in the Shark Tank Pub. The event allowed staff to win various prizes and listen to some Halloween jokes.

Susan Lang, manager of talent and organizational development, said the college’s staff work very hard and the event is to allow them to have some fun.

“I think it’s a thank you and a way for staff to connect with each other. It’s also for them to see people that they don’t otherwise see during the course of the day, so a chance to you know spend some time together,” she said.

Staff were served a lunch of chilli, cookies and more. There were also activities taking place for staff after they ate lunch.

“We’re having pumpkin decorating contests, photo booths, and we’ve got some prize drawers and lunch,” said Lang.

Staff were put in groups and competed for the golden pumpkin trophy by designing pumpkins.  Each group named their pumpkin, some of the names were drunken pumpkin, owl pumpkin and glamor mummy.

The loudest applause from the audience decided the winner. In the end, the drunken pumpkin came out victorious.

Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist’s president, said it’s a great opportunity for staff to get together.

“The amount of creativity here that our staff have put together for other staff is just amazing. It makes a wonderful place that Loyalist is and it’s a really good opportunity for us to get together.”

She ended with saying, “it’s important for us that Loyalist is not only a destination for our students but a destination for faculty staff and administrators to work here, so this is part of the work that we’re doing in that in that area.”
