BELLEVILLE – A 39-year-old Belleville man is facing charges including assaulting a police officer and attempting to disarm an officer after a police call Wednesday.

Belleville police said in a release that they were called to an east end apartment to stand by and keep the peace while property was picked up. Police say the man became aggressive and disruptive while they were there.

Police say they attempted to arrest the man and during the arrest he assaulted an officer and attempted to take his gun. Police say the officer was injured but didn’t need medical attention.

He is being held for a bail hearing Thursday afternoon.
