BELLEVILLE – Forward Jordan Szwarz has been named the Belleville Senators [2] third captain in the franchise’s history.

Szwarz takes over from past captains Mike Blunden and Erik Burgdoerfer.

In a press release, Szwarz said he feels honoured to be named as captain.

“It’s a tremendous honour. To be named captain here and to be able to lead such a great young groups of guys means a lot to me,” he says.

This isn’t the 28-year-old’s first time leading a team in the American Hockey League [3]. Szwarz was named captain of the Portland Pirates in the 2013-2014 season and captain for Providence Bruins [4] in the 2018-2019 season.

Senators head coach, Troy Mann, said Szwarz has stood out to him while trying to pick a captain.

“This year coming in with such a young group, we wanted to take our time and get to know some of the guys that were coming in,” he said. “I just feel over the first six weeks of the season Jordan has stood out to me in terms of how he plays the game and he’s been very good at communicating with me in terms of what the pulse of the team is.”

The Senators have also announced Morgan Klimchuk and Hubert Labrie as alternates.
