Ontario government partners with Loyalist to help Canadian Forces members transition to civilian life

By Liam Radford [1]

BELLEVILLE – The provincial government is contributing nearly $835,000 to a two-year pilot project to help Canadian Armed Forces members learn soft skills and provide job placements after they leave the military.

The project, called Elevate Plus – Military, is through a partnership between Loyalist College, Quinte Economic Development Commission, the Military Family Resource Centre at CFB Trenton and the Ontario government. It will create 56 training opportunities at CFB Trenton in the IT and financial sectors. The project will provide career-specific training, as well as skills like business etiquette and conflict resolution.

“By leveraging the talents of the local military men and women at CFB Trenton, the entire Bay of Quinte community benefits,” said Todd Smith, Bay of Quinte MPP, in a press release.

The ministry of labour is considering similar projects in other Ontario communities.

More to come.
