Quinte West council to vote on fire dispatch outsourcing

  • February 3, 2020 at 11:22 am

By Max Reid

BELLEVILLE – The Belleville fire department may be taking on dispatch duty outside the city, depending on the outcome of a vote that will be presented to Quinte West city council.

On Monday night, council will decide whether Quinte West’s fire dispatch services will be outsourced to Belleville Fire and Emergency Services.

The dispatch services for Quinte West are currently being provided by the local OPP detachment. However, as the detachment is currently in the process of building and moving to a new location, council is looking to have the job picked up by the city of Belleville in the meantime.

This proposal is expected to cost Quinte West about $120,000 from the city’s operating budget to pay the contract to Belleville fire for the year.
