Emergency construction to take place in Picton Tuesday

  • February 11, 2020 at 9:23 am

By Olivia Waldriff

BELLEVILLE – The Water and Wastewater Department in Prince Edward County will conduct emergency repairs on Tuesday as a result of a water-main leak on King Street in Picton.

Repairs begin on Tuesday at 7 a.m. and are expected to be completed by 5 p.m. that day.

Mark Kerr, communications co-ordinator for the County, said in an email to QNet that the cause of the leak is unknown and that they will have more information when they excavate.

“Leaks can happen arbitrarily for many reasons,” Kerr said.

King Street will be closed between Centre Street and Paul Street, except to local traffic. Residents requiring access through the construction area will be accepted through Centre Street only. Motorists are asked to avoid the construction area and travel alternate routes.

The County of Prince Edward says heavy equipment may limit visibility in the area and noise levels will be elevated for the duration of the repair.

These repairs are not expected to impact water quality, however, services on Paul Street between Picton Main Street and King Street and services on King Street between Paul Street and Ross Street may experience intermittent pressure fluctuations or temporary loss of service and coloured water while construction is taking place.

The County says the water remains safe to drink throughout the duration of construction.

If coloured water is experienced, customers are encouraged to flush their water lines at the cold water tap nearest to the water meter once maintenance is complete.
