BELLEVILLE – Three young men from Brighton have been arrested following what police call a high-risk take down by OPP overnight on Sunday.

In a news release, Northumberland OPP say officers responded around 12:30 a.m. after a caller reported that they were being chased by another car and that someone in the vehicle appeared to have a gun.

Police say that they found the vehicle on Alice Street in Brighton and arrested all three men, while the O.P.P’s Emergency Response Team and K-9 Units conducted a search of the area for evidence.

An imitation gun and ammunition were found in a search of the vehicle.

Two 18-year-olds and one 19-year-old are all facing various charges including careless storage of a firearm or ammunition.

One 18-year-old has been charged with uttering threats and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence.

The other 18-year-old was also charged with two counts of assault.

The trio is set to appear in Cobourg court on January 13, 2021.
