BELLEVILLE – Trenton’s Junior A hockey club will honour Capt. Jennifer Casey, a former Quinte West resident at its game on Friday.

Capt. Casey was participating in “Operation Inspiration”, in which the Snowbirds took flight to raise the spirits of Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was flying over Kamloops, British Columbia when the Snowbird she was in crashed on May 17. Casey was a public affairs officer for the Snowbirds.

Just a week before, Capt. Casey and the Snowbirds flew across the Bay of Quinte as a part of their mission.

To honour the former Trenton resident, during Friday’s game against the Wellington Dukes, Trenton Golden Hawks will become the Trenton Snowbirds, complete with special jerseys that will adopt the Snowbirds red, white and blue colours and feature the name Casey on the back.

After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off. The proceeds are going to a scholarship in Casey’s name.

Family, dignitaries, and colleagues will all appear on video in a pre-game ceremony in a salute to Casey.

The game will be aired on YourTV, HockeyTV online, or heard on Country FM 99.3. This is the seventh game of the Hasty Ps 8-game summit series.
