BELLEVILLE – The 30th annual Arts Recognition Awards in partnership with the Quinte Arts Council took place on September 26 at Dinkel’s Restaurant.

The event featured a luncheon with the nominees, public figures and supporters of the Quinte Arts Council, emceed by Dan Douglas.

The six nominees for the Arts Recognition Awards were Judy Bridle, Connie Carson, Quinte Youth Theatre, Peter Paylor, Prince Edward County Jazz Festival and Bill Stearman.  All six nominees received the Arts Recognition Award for 2024, a glass egg-shaped figure, for their contribution to the arts in the Bay of Quinte.

Newly elected Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp was in attendance.

“Across Ontario, arts and culture contributes $27.5 million annually to our economy,” Allsopp said.

“The arts support almost 300,000 jobs, including right here in the Bay of Quinte, underlying the importance of supporting local artists and supporting the arts locally.”

Janet Jarrell, executive director of the Quinte Arts Council talked about the importance of the arts in the community and the work that they do.

“One of our main mandates is arts education,” Jarrell said.

“We send working artists into classrooms to teach visual arts, performing arts, and classical music. We also have six or seven bursaries which are awarded each year to graduating students who are pursuing the arts.”

“We are very proud to be in our 30th year of hosting the Arts Recognition Awards”, she said.
