Judges are needed to challenge students in the field of science and technology.
The 53rd Quinte regional science and technology fair is looking for judges from all walks of life to participate in the May 31st science fair. The fair is taking place at Loyalist College and students from all over the region will be participating. Scott Berry, organizer of the event, said the fair is an invaluable experience for students.
“The students get the experience of presenting their project to the community,” said Berry in an interview. “They gain a better understanding of how their project can benefit the world.”
Berry said that even the average person can be a judge.
“Anyone, we have some businesses, teachers, the general public,” said Berry. “Usually they have a background in math, science, or engineering.”
A judge participating in the science fair can alter the future of a student said Berry. In 2010 a Moira secondary school student, Justin Whitaker, won $48,500 at the Canadian science fair finals for his project on solidifying soils so roads and docks won’t wash away.
