King’s Brad Richardson expected to bring Stanley Cup home to Belleville

Hockey’s top prize may be coming to Belleville.

Los Angeles Kings forward and Belleville native Brad Richardson hoisted the Stanley Cup last night after his team beat the New Jersey Devils in six games.

“It’s going to be in Belleville, no worries about that,” Richardson said in an interview with CBC. “Just tell Little Texas heads up, it’s coming in hot.”

Charles St. George owns Little Texas, a North Front St. bar and restaurant.

St. George said he was delighted to hear Richardson’s comment.

“I was pretty excited because he’s been one of our best customers ever since he started playing hockey.” St. George said.

St. George said Richardson is a frequent visitor during the summer months and is already eagerly anticipating Richardson’s day with the cup.

“I’m hoping he can bring the cup with him (to the bar),” St. George said. “It will be huge.”

Every year, players who win the Stanley Cup get a day with the prized trophy. Players usually bring it to their hometowns to celebrate with family and friends.

Richardson, 27, grew up in Belleville and played minor hockey with the Belleville Bobcats and Quinte Red Devils.

The Stanley Cup’s last visit to Belleville was three years ago, when Stirling native Matt Cooke took it to town following the Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup win over Detroit.

Richardson played in 13 of the Kings 20 playoff games this postseason.
