A house fire in Springbrook has caused traffic to be rerouted and a portion of Highway 14 to be closed, residents say.

It is unknown at this time whether anyone was in the home or the extent of the damage.

Luke Mercier of Luke Mercier’s Violins and Banjos on Bateman Road said he was rerouted on Highway 14 when he was coming back from the village.

“I was able to see a little bit of smoke down in Springbrook,” said Mercier. “But I couldn’t see past the police cruisers.”

Mercier said traffic is now being diverted down Bateman Road.

Robert Gaunt of Robert Gaunt’s Small Motor Sales & Repairs downtown the village says he is about 500 feet from the house fire behind the village’s post office.

“There’s still a lot of smoke,” said Gaunt. “ The fire department is here, and the police.”

Police and Fire officials could not be reached.
