Local MPP disappointed with Premier's decisions

  • October 16, 2012 at 10:42 am

By Tyson Leonard

Local Conservative MPP Todd Smith said Ontario is in a serious situation and Premier Dalton McGuinty is running away from it.

“Ontario has become less prosperous and more debt ridden than any point in its history, and in the face of that kind of adversity the Premier has decided to tuck his tail between his legs and take off,” said Smith.

After nine years as premier, McGuinty announced Monday he was stepping down and proroguing the legislature.

Smith said the move is in the interest of Dalton McGuinty and the Liberal government, not the province.

Smith said there is no need to stop working. He said the Liberals could easily have their leadership race while parliament continues.

“There’s a lot of work to be done at Queens Park. The people have elected us to be here doing that work,” said Smith.

Smith said the Dalton McGuinty era is going to go down as Ontario’s lost opportunity.

“It’s a legacy that not worth remembering, its one worth regretting,” said Smith.

More to come.
