UPDATE – Family and friends of 54-year-old missing boater Gordon Alexander “Sandy” Rutherford of Wellington, along with OPP marine units, continue to search the waters of West Lake today.

The OPP’s under water search and recovery unit finished their search yesterday afternoon but OPP marine units are still on the water investigating.

“At this point, we still haven’t located Mr. Rutherford,” says Sgt. Kristine Rae of the OPP, adding the continuation of the search will be dictated on a “day by day, hour by hour basis.

Constable Anthony Mann, communications officer for the Prince Edward Hastings OPP detachment says the search for Rutherford will continue for as long as necessary.

“We’ll continue our search until we’ve exhausted all means.” said Mann.

Mann said friends and family of Rutherford wish to extend their gratitude to the community for the support they’ve been shown.

On Tuesday, Sgt. Scott Woodburn, of the Prince Edward OPP, said the investigation was handed over to provincial police after the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton finished their search.
Rutherford went missing Saturday evening after going fishing on West Lake, south of Belleville. According to published reports,  Prince Edward County OPP officers, as well as crews from Trenton’s 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron and Wellington’s Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary unit, searched throughout Saturday and Sunday nights.
Its the fifth full day of the investigation.
