Men’s basketball Lancers lose in heartbreaker

  • October 23, 2013 at 11:06 am

By Andrew Heliotis.

BELLEVILLE – After overcoming a 16-point deficit in the third quarter, the Loyalist Lancers men’s basketball team lost their season opener in a heartbreaker to the
Centennial College Colts Tuesday.

The Colts needed four full quarters to defeat the Lancers. After both teams exchanged leads in the final minute, Centennial was able to seal a victory from the free-throw line with 5.5 seconds remaining.

The Lancers got into foul trouble early in the game, hurting their ability to shut down the Centennials big bodies down low. Lancer forwards Muller Kalala and Jayvon Lake had 5 fouls combined, heading into the third.

A high point for the Lancers was the play of returning guard and team captain Pat Kalala. In the final quarter of the game Kalala put on a clinic, scoring 9 of his eventual 23 points.

The Lancers will be back on home court on Saturday, Nov. 2, to take on La Cité, an Ottawa college.
