(10/23/13) Students in the Child and Youth Worker program at Loyalist College

By Morgan Davy

BELLEVILLE – The students of the Child and Youth Work program at Loyalist College are joining in the fight against child abuse.

Calley Mosley, a third-year CYW student, and her classmates are asking people to place a purple handprint on a wall to signify their support in ending child abuse.

This mission is focused on Belleville, where there are many resources available to children who are in abusive homes. Big Brother/Big Sister programs are offered in Hastings and Prince Edward counties, as are many after-school activities that children can get involved in.

The 55 students in their third year in the CYW program all made their pledge and have seen many other staff and students follow suit. The handprints line the walls outside of CYW offices and more are added every day.

Mosley said the main goal of this project is to get people involved and bring attention to an issue that she feels strongly about.

“We’re trying to get more awareness to the fact that there are still children being abused every day and we want people to keep to their pledge that they won’t raise a hand against a child.”
