BELLEVILLE – There was good news today for the manufacturing sector in Belleville.

Ontario’s minister of economic development, trade and employment, Eric Hoskins, was in the city to announce a new production line at Sigma Stretch Film of Canada Co.

The new line will create 10 jobs in Belleville as well as secure the 123 existing jobs at the plant.

The Eastern Ontario Development Fund is providing a grant of $235,700 toward the project.

Hoskins said the investment is good for the economy. “When companies like Sigma Stretch Film invest in new technology and create jobs, it strengthens our economy. Through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund our government is providing targeted growth so that ambitious companies can grow, go global and invest in their communities,” he said.

Sigma makes stretch film used in farming, to cover hay bales and feed. The new production line of agricultural films will increase capacity and support the company’s expansion into new export markets.
