  • January 20, 2014 at 4:09 pm

By Greg Murphy

BELLEVILLE – Seventy Canadian soldiers landed at Canadian Forces Base Trenton Monday morning after a several months of deployment in Afghanistan.

They are some of the last Canadians to serve in Operation Attention, the third and final major Canadian Armed Forces mission in Afghanistan.

In total, 143 Canadians will return home this week to bases in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta. Troops landed in Winnipeg as well as Trenton on Monday.

There will still be approximately 100 Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan by the end of January in continued support of Operation Attention.

All Canadian soldiers will return home by the end of March.
