Build Belleville wants downtown revitalized

By Amanda Lorbetski

BELLEVILLE – A Build Belleville [1] public information meeting is coming up, this time focusing on downtown revitalization.

Build Belleville, an initiative launched by Mayor Neil Ellis [2] in 2010, was created as a means of funding city projects when cuts were made to government funding. The city [3]has started taking out loans during a time of low interest rates. These will fund $400 million in infrastructure and downtown revitalization projects as well as a new police station.

Build Belleville’s plans for revitalizing the city’s downtown include changing the public perception of it as a place that’s deteriorating and creating opportunities for small businesses to open.

Those looking to learn more about these plans are encouraged to attend the meeting. It takes place on Wed. Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 116 Pinnacle St., the Build Belleville Project Centre.
