Snowstorm hits Belleville hard

  • March 12, 2014 at 2:25 pm

By Lyndsie Baxter and Alisa Howlett

BELLEVILLE – Belleville police officers are having a busy day.

They’ve been responding to multiple motor-vehicle accidents and crashes Wednesday afternoon.

Open rural areas are particularly dangerous as visibility is greatly reduced from the snow and blowing winds.

Northumberland OPP, meanwhile, are dealing with multiple collisions on Highway 401 eastbound west of County Road 30, near Brighton. Two tractor-trailers and an unknown number of cars are completely closing the roadway.

Brighton fire and emergency medical crews are also on the scene. There are reports of injuries.

Police are reminding motorists to drive according to the road and weather conditions by slowing down and keeping a safe distance  behindother vehicles.

Motorists are also encouraged to limit their driving until the weather improves.
