Via trains are running again as Tyendinaga protest ends

  • March 20, 2014 at 9:09 am

By Katie Coleman

BELLEVILLE – Via Rail service is back to normal Thursday after Tyendinaga protesters cleared the tracks on Wyman Road in Marysville.

A group of people had been blocking the rail line since Tuesday evening to put pressure on the Canadian government to force an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women.

Via said it expects service to be normal Thursday. On Wednesday, trains on the Montreal-to-Toronto route and the Toronto-to-Ottawa route were cancelled because of the bloackade. Via used buses to transport passengers.

Customers seeking more information are asked to call Via at 1-888-842-7245.

More to come.
