Quinte West Hawks aiming for third straight OMHA trophy

BELLEVILLE – It will be a do or die game as the Quinte West Juvenile Hawks aim to take home their third consecutive Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) trophy when they face the Erie North Shore Storm in Trenton on Saturday evening.
The Hawks are tied 2-2 with the Storm after winning two games in a row this past weekend. The Hawks won both games 3-2. Before last weekend they were down in the series 2-0.
Head coach Corey Ignas said the entire club is thankful they were able to respond to a massive challenge.
“We know we are up against a very good team and can’t afford to get to ahead of ourselves. Saturday evening will be our toughest challenge yet, but we have set a goal and look forward to playing hard for all of our alumni and supporters, who have been the best fans both at home and on the road,” said Ignas.
“We aren’t thinking of numbers or records, we just want to go out and do everything we can to defend our title. We have just approached it one game at a time and plan on treating Saturday the same way,” he added.
The team will be without defenceman Kai Sorvari for Saturday’s game as he received a two game suspension for interference from the bench. The Hawks will call up forward Alex Mahar, the Quinte West midget Hawks’ captain.
The puck drops Saturday evening at 5 p.m. at the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens, rink number one.
