Summerlicious food festival looks to draw residents downtown

By Mark Hodgins

Summerlicious is back for its sixth year this Saturday.

Downtown Belleville’s annual food tasting challenge will feature 12 local restaurants, all of which will be serving up some dishes for visitors to try. The restaurants will feature local grown food in their samples.

The event, hosted again by the Belleville Downtown Improvement Area, is one of many ways the BDIA is trying to inject life into the downtown core.

“It’s [Summerlicious] one of our most successful events, and it’s a great way to showcase amazing restaurants in our downtown,” said Rachel Pearsall, the Office and Events Coordinator for the BDIA.

“Our goal with any of our downtown events is to bring people down and have them experience restaurants they may have not tried before, and our amazing shops and things like that so it’s just a way to get people downtown and experiencing everything we have to offer.”

Votes can be cast at the BDIA office to determine which restaurant has the downtown’s best food. There will also be a spot to donate a non-perishable food item to help out Gleaner’s Food Bank.

Summerlicious gets underway at noon.
