By Mark Hodgins

BELLEVILLE – Killaloe OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) are continuing their investigation into a fatal hunting accident north of Bancroft this weekend.

At around 3 p.m. on Saturday police responded to a hunting accident that happened on Elwoods Road in Palmer Rapids.  A 37 year old Ameliasburgh man is dead.

Few other details are available at this time.

Following the death the OPP released a statement imploring the public to follow safe hunting practices, which include:

  • Always wearing hunter orange to ensure visibility
  • Pack essential survival goods such as water, food, matches, first aid kit, maps and a compass
  • Hunting at night for big game is not allowed and is very dangerous
  • Do not mix hunting with alcohol or drug use; hunting with a clear mind is paramount

More information on hunting safety and regulations can be found online or at your local MNR office.

More to come.
