City gives free sand to residents

  • January 8, 2015 at 3:02 pm

By Taylor Broderick

BELLEVILLE – The City of Belleville is offering residents free sand to help keep their icy walkways and driveways safe.

The sand can be picked up outside the fence of public works buildings at 75 Wallbridge Cres. and 27 Ritz Rd.

It will be available for residents to grab anytime during the day or night, says the supervisor of the city’s road services Joseph Reid.

Reid says there’s no limit on how much sand each person can take. All you have to do is bring your own shovel and pail and fill up, he said.

Reid says the city has provided this service to the public for many years now.

“This helps residents protect themselves from slips and falls, and icy driveways on private property,” Reid said.

The sand will be available for the rest of the winter.
