BELLEVILLE – A 75-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after police saw him driving the wrong way on County Road 29 east of Warkworth.

Prior to the arrest, Northumberland OPP say, they received a report at 12:30 p.m. that an intoxicated man had been refused service at the Warkworth LCBO. After the refusal, witnesses saw him drive away in a red SUV.

Police made the arrest after they spotted saw a car driving in the oncoming lane about two kilometres east of Warkworth, said Const. Steve Bates. The driver was taken to the Brighton OPP detachment and charged with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in the bloodstream.

He was released and is to appear at Cobourg’s Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 18.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.
