Children approached by suspicious men, police say
BELLEVILLE – Police are looking into two reports of children being approached by suspicious men.
Two girls, ages 14 and 11, were approached by two men in a van Wednesday at Sidney and Wilkins streets around 4 p.m., Belleville Police reported Thursday.
The men said they wanted the girls to get into the van, but the girls walked away, police said.
The driver is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s with short dark hair and a beard. He was wearing glasses and a black sweater. The passenger was also a white man wearing a black sweater, police said.
The vehicle is described as a grey, older box-style van. It was last seen heading north on Sidney Street.
In another incident Wednesday, a boy walking in the area of Victoria and Pine streets was approached by a man in a dark grey pick-up truck, police said. The driver asked the boy to get into the truck, but the boy fled.
The truck, described as an older model with a loud muffler, was last seen going north on Lingham Street.
The driver was described as a white man in his 30s with dark hair and a goatee.
Police say officers are still investigating both cases, and there is no more information at this time.
