United Way gets $18,000 from Loyalist

  • February 3, 2015 at 2:27 pm

By Jordan Merkley

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College raised a whopping $8,000 more for The United Way of Quinte this year compared to last year.

The college presented a $18,659 cheque Tuesday, up from the $10,410 it gave in 2014.

Throughout the year, the Loyalist Public Relations Program does numerous fundraising events for the United Way, with their biggest fundraiser being the annual truckload sale.

President of Loyalist College Maureen Piercy presented the cheque to United Way Executive Director Judi Gilbert.

Piercy said she is very thankful for the help and passion of the students in the post-graduate program. Public relations students already have degrees and diplomas prior to entering in the one-year certificate program.

Gilbert appreciated the donation.

“We are very grateful for the help and support we receive from Loyalist College,” said Gilbert.

Only two weeks ago, The United Way of Quinte reached a milestone of over $2 million, all donated to them by members and businesses in the community.

“It speaks volumes about the community and the donors, we would not be able to achieve what we do without them. It is truly a huge milestone,” Gilbert said.
