BELLEVILLE – An unidentified man was hit and killed by a Via Rail train on the tracks west of Trenton Junction on Monday evening.

Const. Dave Ludington of the Ontario Provincial Police Eastern Region headquarter said the Quinte West OPP and fire department arrived on the scene just before 6 p.m. The man was dead at the scene, he said.

No foul play is suspected, Ludington said, adding that no further information will be released.

There were minor delays to both westbound and eastbound Via trains as a result of the accident, Ludington said. Passengers were still on board the train that struck the man.
