Loyalist students were happy to vote

BELLEVILLE – Loyalist College students are proud to say they voted in the federal election Monday night.

Greg Murphy, who is in the Chemical Engineering Technician program, said he believes everyone should exercise the right to vote.

“If you’re over the age of 18 you have the right to vote. I’ve always been of the opinion that we should exercise that right, seeing that there are people all over the world that die for a chance, unfortunately, to do the same thing,” Murphy said.

Jacob Tarala, a TV New Media student, said he thinks it’s because of social media that many more of the younger generation voted this year than in the 2011 federal election.

“If you look on Facebook, YouTube, Google – it was all promoting voting. I know that a lot of the younger people want change. It seemed like it was time,” Tarala said.

A voting station was set up at the residence commons building here at the college for any students and local people living around that area. There was also a voting station set up there for the municipal election last year.
