Quick action by Belleville firefighters saves home

  • October 22, 2015 at 12:55 pm

BELLEVILLE – Firefighters were able to prevent a home from being completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday night.

At around 7:30 p.m., Belleville’s fire department was called to a Frank Street apartment building.

Capt. Jim Donovan and those under his command discovered a kitchen fire in one of the basement apartments, according to a news release from the department.

The blaze was doused with just a little water, but the rest of the residence was heavily damaged by smoke.

A fire inspector at the scene estimated the damages to be $40,000.

An investigation is ongoing, but it’s not considered suspicious.
