Stay safe this Halloween

  • October 29, 2015 at 2:58 pm

BELLEVILLE – Belleville Police want to be sure everyone stays safe this Halloween.

The police have acquired the services of a number of volunteers who will be out on the streets on Saturday. They’ll be helping out by being an extra set of eyes and ears as children trick or treat.

Police also have a few tips for homeowners to keep your place safe for kids:

  • Keep the path leading up to your door clear and well-lit.
  • Keep your pets inside.
  • Consider using glow sticks instead of candles to light those jack-o’-lanterns.

For the kids, there are a few things that can help keep Halloween a fun and safe night:

  • Bring a flashlight.
  • Stay on the sidewalks, and if there is no sidewalk, stay on the left-hand side of the street facing traffic.
  • Don’t jaywalk.
  • Don’t cut across lawns or take short cuts.
  • Don’t go inside houses or vehicles unless you know the person.
  • Only trick or treat at houses that are lit.
  • Stay away from animals that you don’t know.
  • Don’t vandalize!
  • Have a spooky Halloween!
