Phoney poppy sales

  • November 10, 2015 at 2:02 pm

By Meaghan Bury

BELLEVILLE – The Belleville Poppy Fund wants people to be aware of a man visiting homes in the city attempting to sell poppies.

The man has been described as wearing a red sash and a legion badge. Committee member Marvin Schmidt has been a part of the Poppy Fund for 20 years and says the man is not authorized by the fund in any way, shape or form.

Schmidt says poppies are not for sale but donations are accepted.

“The main thing is that people are wearing them,” he said.

Poppies are still available at the mall, legion, and a number of stores across the city. Donations are used to assist veterans and their spouses and the organizations that support them.
