Quinte Conservation celebrates worldwide GIS Day

  • November 16, 2015 at 3:28 pm

By Justin Medve and Devin Roherty

BELLEVILLE – Quinte Conservation will be hosting an open house to educate people on digital mapping and geocaching on Wednesday, which is worldwide Geographic Information System Day.

From 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., anyone who is interested can take part in an interactive information session on how GPS helps to map changing environments, design trails and locate co-ordinates.

The official geocaching website defines it as “a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices”. Quinte Conservation will be teaching people how to take part in this popular pastime.

Digital mapping helps environmentalists with issues like weather forecasting and climate change. The open house will give people a chance to see it in action, as well as learn how its technology has advanced over the years.

More information on the event can be found here.

More to come.
