Loyalist women look for another volleyball win

BELLEVILLE – With five wins and three losses so far, the Loyalist College Lady Lancers volleyball team is looking to keep its successful season going Wednesday.

“I am happy with where the girls are at. These girls are such a great group of girls and they are so much fun to be around,” said coach Dominique Dawes.

Dawes said she likes to keep the focus on her team, and not the opponents it goes up against.

“Our team focus is definitely on our team as a whole. When you start a new season you’ve got new girls coming in, returning girls and girls leaving. Our main focus is to worry about our side of the court, kind of getting girls comfortable with each other.”

But Dawes says the team is prepared for Wednesday night’s opponent, the Trent University Excalibur.

“We have watched game tape of them and we have talked about (Trent) as a team,” she said.

But too much info can also be a bad thing, Dawes said: “We don’t want to give them an information overload, but we also want them to know what they are up against.”

The Excalibur comes to Loyalist as a team that has more size and experience on its side.

Dawes emphasized that her players needs to stick to what they do best.

“Our focus is always on us – not giving up on balls and basically just always going hard.”

The Lady Lancers host Trent Wednesday at 6 p.m.
